Thousand Kites is a community-based performance, web, video and radio project centered on the United States prison system and created with inmates, employees, and their families.

Thousand Kites Radio is a twenty-four hour online broadcast of interviews, news programs, spoken word, documentary, and shout outs to creatively explore and challenge the U.S. criminal justice system. In prison jargon, Kite means to send a message. The station is part of the national arts project Thousand Kites.
